The Port of Hamburg is home to a decommissioned Russian hunter-class submarine, the largest of its kind in the world. You can't miss the chance to hop aboard!
Find out what life was like for a submariner during the Cold War on this short, sweet and utterly fascinating tour of the U-434. This brilliant boat is a must for history buffs, guys who like war movies, and anyone who's up for doing something a bit different.
Explore the u-boat from bow to stern, taking in the experience of living in the cramped sleeping quarters (the submariners slept in what were little more than cupboards) and moving from bulkhead to bulkhead via tiny gangways. Your trip around the sub will take an hour or less, but you will be amply rewarded with some truly freaky historical insights! When you understand that 12 people lived in the sub for months on end, co-existing in tiny metal spaces and not surfacing for days at a time, you'll get a new respect for the characters you see in the movies.
You'll need to be reasonably fit to navigate the narrow stairs and corridors. This isn't suitable for fellers who suffer from claustrophobia.
Thanks to its short tour time, you can easily add this in to a Hamburg stag do itinerary around your other activities.
