10 Hilarious Wedding Day Pranks

Weddings are full of special traditions and emotional moments, but not everything has to be serious. If you and your partner are up for some wedding day pranks to make your special day that much more memorable look no further. These pranks will lighten the mood, relieve some of that wedding day stress and give your guests some great stories to tell.

Here are our top 10 wedding day pranks voted on by the staff here at Stag Weekends:

The first look Prank

This prank is a fun twist on the ‘first look’ trend. Originally the trend is where the groom finally sees his bride for the first time, dressed to the 9s in her wedding attire. This prank is the first look, but instead of the bride, like the groom is expecting he’ll turn around to see his best man in a tacky white dress or a funny costume = A great pre-wedding laugh to relieve some tension.

First Dance

This is a prank for the wedding guests. Start the first dance as expected with a romantic, meaningful love song, and after a little while have the DJ shut it off abruptly. Stand around confused and then have the DJ whip out a banger and break into a choreographed dance. Hilarious and gets everyone in a boogieing mood.

Bouquet Trick

It’s a well-known tradition that as a part of the wedding reception the bride will toss her bouquet over her shoulder towards her single friends and family. Rumour is that the person who catches it will be the next one to marry. For this prank, when throwing the bouquet have it tied to a piece of string and pull it back before anyone catches it. That or you could get one of the groomsmen to run in and intercept it. It will cause some temporary frustration but it's funny and people will see the funny side of it.

Last minute Officiant**

Surprise your guests with a last-minute officiant. Have someone close to you marry you. This can be meaningful or funny and a total surprise for the guests. The prank would be that the officiant hasn’t turned up and a family member or friend must ‘step in’ at the last moment.

Celebrity Officiant**

This is a fun little prank for everyone (so long as the bride and groom approve) instead of having a priest or clergyman officiate the wedding. Hire a celebrity doppelganger, think Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran or even Brad Pitt. Pretend nothing is out of the ordinary and go on as normal, leaving the guests wondering if they’re seeing things

** Please note: For a wedding to be legally binding, it must take place in a registered or approved venue and be officiated by either a registered civil celebrant or a minister of religion authorised for such ceremonies. For this prank, the couple can opt to do the legal paperwork at an earlier or later date.

Lost rings

Have the best man or ring bearer ‘misplace’ the rings. He’ll pretend to have lost them, tapping his pockets and asking the other groomsmen or even some of the audience if they have them or have seen them. Only to later find them. This prank may make the bride or groom’s heart flip, but once revealed will hopefully bring out some smiles and laughs.

*Results may vary depending on the bride and groom’s temperament.

Garter removal

Another wedding tradition, the male counterpart to the bouquet toss is the garter removal. Originally this tradition would have the bride sit in a chair in the middle of the room, and the groom is to remove her garter blindfolded with his teeth only. The garter is then thrown to the male single family and friends at the reception, rumour is the person that catches it, will be the next to marry.

The prank here is when we swap out the beautiful bride for the best man, put him in a skirt and put a garter on his thigh so that the groom must go fishing for the piece of fabric under his best friend's skirt. The laughs are priceless.

I Object!

This one is simple. Have 1 or more people get up at the all-important part of the wedding where the officiant says, ‘If anybody objects to this union, speak now or forever hold your peace’ and pretend to have the groom fight them (this should all be tongue in cheek and funny). Once having slain the objectors, marrying his bride.

A surprise wedding!

This is the prank of all pranks. Instead of inviting your family and friends to your wedding, invite them to a costume party, they’ll arrive in flapper dresses, blow-up dinosaur costumes and more. Absolutely hilarious! This one takes a certain type of bride and groom to be able to pull it off and to be on board with the idea.

The bystander

Get a friend or hire an actor to come to the wedding in a clown suit and have them sit to the side or at the back. The fun of this prank is that the bride and groom won’t acknowledge them, pretending it’s normal and nothing out of the ordinary. This prank is harmless and will leave the guests scratching their heads for sure.

The Rules!!

No one is to get injured

it shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to clean up

The prank shouldn’t cause stress or panic

Know your audience – The prank should be something everyone can laugh at

Make it light and playful
