Don't fancy spending every waking minute of your Amsterdam stag do scoffing space cakes and wandering the Red Light District like a space cadet? Hedonistic stuff aside, Amsterdam is a city brimming with culture. I'm not talking about windmills, tulip farms and canal barge tours. Get a real feel for the city and a taste of Dutch culture with these stag-friendly activities.
Sightseeing and boozing collide in this ingenious activity that was pretty much made for stag parties. Jump on the beer bike and take the pub on tour. Quaff lots of Dutch or Belgian beer, and see Amsterdam's canals, skinny houses, barges, famous streets and cafes. The beer bike is a winner as it's more getting a taste of street life than seeing grand tourist attractions. Culture? Check.
If that doesn't whet your whistle, take the Heineken Experience brewery tour and discover how master brewers turn simple ingredients into the good stuff.
Amsterdam has a massive clubbing scene and it's a huge part of the city's culture. Stag parties up for staying out from dusk'til dawn are in luck. This is a city that never sleeps and most club nights go on until sunrise.
A night at Paradiso is a must. This temple of clubbing is located near the Leidseplein in an old church. Come join the party and lose the plot on the dancefloor with 1,500 other nutters!
No-one loves cheese quite like the Dutch, it's central to their culture. Along with beer and flowers, it's their biggest export. A stag weekend in Amsterdam without cheese would be like Cornwall without pasties. The city is studded with cheese shops and there's alot more on offer than Edam and Gouda.
Go cheese tasting and get your laughing gear round everything from Maasdam to that tasty smoked cheese that looks like a little sausage. There are loads of places to go cheese tasting, the most famous being the Reypenaer Tasting Room on Singel.
Amsterdammers are bonkers about the beautiful game, and with good reason. AFC Ajax, the city's team, have won 4 UEFA Champions League titles and the Dutch Eredivisie 33 times. Legendary player Johan Cruyff came up with the concept of total football, making Ajax the team to beat during the'70s.
If you possibly can, arrange the date of your Amsterdam stag weekend to fall in line with the football fixtures. Bag Ajax football tickets and take a tour of the impressive Amsterdam ArenA. Get your culture fix at the Ajax Museum. It's called the Ajax Experience. Enjoy!
Then you have the big'musts'. Synonymous with Amsterdam culture, top attractions like the Anne Frank Huis, the Rijksmuseum, and the Van Gogh Museum have massive queues for a reason. They're unlike anything else and make the hairs on the back of your neck stand to attention.
