At Stag Weekends & Hen Weekends, we're no strangers to organising alcohol-fueled nights out. It’s integral to our party packages, and we’re even partial to sharing our favourite nightlife spots across the UK.
Using official Ahrefs data, we’ve recently found that the Google search term ‘pub crawl’ receives on average 2.6k searches per month in the UK, with “bar crawl” fetching a whopping average of 6.6K searches per month in the USA.
Clearly, we’re not the only ones looking for a fool-proof night of boozy drinking…
A pub crawl or a bar crawl involves going from one pub to another on foot, upping the drinks as you go.
It’s typical to visit at least 5 or 6 venues on a pub crawl and possibly finish in a nightclub - if you are ready to dance by then!
Before you embark on your night out, deciding on a location with a good run of pubs to choose from is essential.
To find the official, best locations in England for pub crawls, we decided to blow the cobwebs off our maths skills. First, we needed to calculate which main towns and cities have the most pubs to their name.
Indeed, if more pubs are available, the pub crawl will be more successful, right?
To do this, we received certified data from Nomis, which reveals the number of pubs and bars in major towns and cities in England. Next, we uncovered the size of each town or city in miles².
Finally, the sizes were divided by the number of pubs in each location, resulting in an orderly list of England’s most dense pub crawl destinations.
The results are in, and according to our data, the top 10 best locations in England for pub crawls are:
1. Huddersfield - 65 pubs per 10 miles²
2. South Shields - 60 pubs per 10 miles²
3. Shrewsbury - 56 pubs per 10 miles²
4. Portsmouth - 54 pubs per 10 miles²
5. Bath & Norwich - 52 pubs per 10 miles²
6. Bristol - 50 pubs per 10 miles²
7. Oldham & Liverpool & Darlington - 49 pubs per 10 miles²
With 65 pubs per 10 miles² of this large market town, Huddersfield is the best place in England to hold a pub crawl. Taking second and third place is South Shields and Shrewsbury.
A few locations we often vouch for, such as Liverpool, Bristol and Bath, made it to the list. Still, the underdog locations have ultimately flooded the top 10 and piqued our interest.
What do you make of these results? Are you surprised by any of the championing locations on the list? Perhaps you’re closer to a prime bar crawl destination than you once thought.
Our findings prove that you can sometimes discover the best nights out in the most unexpected places - and at the very least, you won't run out of pubs to visit!
Remember to always drink responsibly.
